OXCHUC HUIPIL

This is a one-of-a-kind handwoven huipil from the highland Tzotzil Mayan community of Oxchuc, Chiapas, Mexico. Woven on a traditional backstrap loom using techniques passed down for hundreds of generations since Prehispanic times, this garment is a living piece of indigenous Mayan culture.

The bold geometric design is a signature of Oxchuc's ancestral weaving tradition — characterized by striking diamond and square forms that carry deep spiritual meaning.

Their four signature geometric brocades represent the Four Elements, Four Seasons, Four Movements of the Sun, Four Directions, & Four Stages of Life.

No two pieces are alike — yours is an original, one-of-a-kind work of art. These are among the most intricate textiles in Mexico.
